Just a Thought by Richard Risley

So much information out there waiting to be rounded up

The Town of Webb Board has considered publishing semi-regular informational articles for years, but nixed the idea for one reason or another.

Some thought it might occasionally appear like a ploy to help or hurt someone politically.

My intention here is to share the thoughts of someone who, as a former board member, might have an inside scoop on things that interest some of you.

Those that assume I will never run for office again after last fall’s elections are right—however I have learned to never say never. Specifically, two scenarios would have to happen before I would even consider it and, without divulging them, the devil would be more likely to show up for a weekend of ice fishing.

The point is, my comments won’t be political, just honest.

This is about our communities and what interests you, the residents, visitors and readers. It is my hope to be able to involve anyone and everyone that has an interest in bettering our communities.

After eight years on the Town of Webb Board, I have garnered much information. I hope to encourage questions and answers that are both interesting and informative as well as a benefit to our communities. Possibly some humor too.

Any dirty laundry? Not intentionally, though a sock might slip in from time to time.

Mainly information and ideas that can help our communities maintain what we have and maybe even prosper.

If you have a topic you’d like to know more about, please tell me and I’ll see what information I can gather, possibly from the town board, town clerk, police chief, codes officer, etc.

Example: What is the relationship between the Town of Webb Police and the Town of Inlet Police Departments. Did they merge?

Disclaimer: I don’t claim to be a writer, so please be gentle. I had some great teachers while growing up, but let’s face it, they didn’t have much to work with.

I will not be bashing our visitors, my customers, wannabe second- home owners, contractors or my spouse. I have a strong belief we should not be bashing the people who bring the cash to town that we then use to raise our families.

Without vacationing visitors and second home owners, many of us would not be able to live in and enjoy our Adirondacks.

This is a large town both by land mass as well as government entities. Between the Police, Health Center, Snowmobiling, Tourism and McCauley to name a few, there are all sorts of interesting points not clearly understood on the street.

The subject matter will not be limited to Town of Webb government.

Do you have a question for Inlet? Town of Webb Schools? I am willing to make inquiries and report the findings.

In the meantime, here’s a follow up to last week’s ATV discussion.

I have received many comments and suggestions about a next step. The fact is, no government entity—town boards included— will act without a formal request from an organized group.

Think McCauley, lakefront, snowmobile trails.

All were brought about by public groups showing an interest.

Supporters should get together and attend board meetings and request the next step. Numbers need to be in the dozens. Dozens. Lewis County ATV coordinator has already offered his assistance.

Till next time.
