Wood Shed Crafts: Don & Alesia Olney get crafty at their new Woodgate shop

Wood Shed Crafts, a new shop on Bear Creek Road in Woodgate operated by Don and Alesia Olney,  is now open for business, by appointment only.

For years the Olneys were members of the Artworks artists’ co-op in Old Forge, where their handmade crafts were on display. They also sold their handcrafted articles at the annual summer Craft Fair sponsored by View, the arts center in Old Forge.

Many of the crafts at the new shop are made by the couple, including Don’s specialty, the Bug Box, a bug-collecting vessel.

“Between the Artworks and the Craft Shows we did over the years, I’ve made and sold over 3,000 of them,” Don said.

Alesia is a wood worker and makes pine shelving, small hutches, and cribs for the store. The shop also features consignment items created by other artisans such as Amish rockers and Amish bread knives, pot holders, bird feeders and birdhouses shaped like acorns that can be taken apart for cleaning.

Wood Shed Crafts also has clocks, wall ornaments, baskets, decorative lamps and hand-painted handsaws and circular saw blades.

The Bear Creek Road shop is located one-third mile from Woodgate Corners, next to the Woodgate Community Hall.

A sign will be posted at the end of the driveway when they are open, though they plan on setting definite hours in the spring.
