Historical Assn. hosts Goodsell open house

The Town of Webb Historical Association invited members, friends and passers-by to celebrate the Holidays with an Open House at the Goodsell Museum in Old Forge on Sunday, December 4.

Approximately 80 people stopped in during the three-hour get-together to see the new exhibit “Medicine Up North,” enjoy refreshments, and conversations with neighbors.

Several of the early visitors gathered for a special photograph on the front steps of the museum.  The photo-op was inspired by a campaign to make sure our favorite landmarks get their due which was found on the National Trust for Historic Preservation website.

In the photograph, Annette Eyre is holding a sign downloaded from the site that states “This Place Matters.”

The Historical Association and it’s supporters feel that the former home of George Goodsell, the first ‘mayor’ of Old Forge in 1903 matters.

The Historical Association is grateful that George’s son Robert Goodsell left the property and buildings to the Association in his will when he died in 1994 at the age of 100. Now on the State and National Registers of Historic Preservation, the Historical Association will continue its mission to preserve and protect the buildings and property of the Goodsell’s because “This Place Matters.”
