Services set for Ruth Coscomb, 90

A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, October 29 at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Church in Boonville for Ruth D. Coscomb, 90, who died Monday, October 24, 2011.

Mrs. Coscomb was born in Woodgate, a daughter of the late Charles and Lena (Moon) Donahue, and was the last surviving of their seven children. A graduate of Boonville High School and Potsdam Normal School, she taught at Adirondack Central’s Boonville Elementary school for 38 years.

Ruth married Robert H. Coscomb on March 26, 1951 at St. Patrick’s Church in Forestport, where they lived for several years before moving to Boonville, a loving union that lasted until his death in 2003.

For many years Ruth was also the bookkeeper and treasurer for her husband’s logging and lumber businesses.

Mrs. Coscomb was an active supporter and member of many local area organizations. An avid reader, she enjoyed attending concerts, plays and auctions.

Ruth loved learning and sharing local history, dining out, traveling, and spending time with family and friends.

She was known to be a loyal friend and fun companion who throughout her life quietly helped others during times of need.

Mrs. Coscomb is survived by three daughters: Martha and husband David Lynch of Walworth and Kayuta Lake, with whom she was residing at the time of her death, Marie Adams and her partner Richard Williams of Old Forge and New Jersey, and Teresa Falvo of Utica;

A son, Robert Coscomb and wife Blanche of Boonville; grandchildren Joanna and husband Andrew Meyer, Elizabeth Lynch and husband Francis Furch, Adam Lynch, Emily Coscomb and Zachary Coscomb;

Great-grandchildren Hannah, Robert, Aaron and Sean; sisters-in-law Norma Donahue and Mary Lenart;

Nieces, nephews, and the care assistants whose kindness and respect Ruth greatly appreciated.

In honor of Ruth’s love of reading, the family suggests memorial gifts may be made to Erwin Library, 104 Schuyler St., Boonville or the Woodgate Free Library, Woodgate Drive, Forestport.

Calling hours are Friday, October 28 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Mills Funeral Home, 301 Post St., Boonville. Internment will be at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Boonville.
