Town board grants conditional approval for next summer’s Forge Fest concert

Preliminary approval with conditions was granted by the Town of Webb Board for Adirondack Specialty Events to hold Forge Fest next summer at the North Street Recreation Center.

Forge Fest is a daylong outdoor concert event, which started this summer in Old Forge.

Councilwoman Kate Russell and Councilman Mike Ross served as town board delegates to discuss concerns and possible improvements to the event for 2012.

To better contain the sound of the live bands, the promotion company, which consists of Donna Pohl, Jim Connerty, Dennis Michael and Jane Slack, has agreed to turn the stage away from neighboring homes.

They also agreed to monitor the volumes prior to the concert, and at various times throughout the event.

There had been discussion as to whether the concert should wrap up sooner than last year, when it ended at 10 p.m.

Dennis Michael said the final act features a light show that would be lessened were it to take place without good darkness.

Bob Shue, who lives near the North Street venue, said that he found the 10 o’clock time acceptable and supported its continuation.

The promotors also agreed that the ticket gate will be moved from North Street onto the actual property of the Recreation Center.

Councilwoman Russell said she felt all concerns were adequately addressed and made the motion for approval, which was seconded by Counilman J.B. Herron and passed unanimously.
