Old Forge Inlet Historical Society hosting Gary Lee program on Sept. 17th

The Inlet Historical Society will present “Memories of an Inlet Ranger” a program featuring Gary Lee, on Saturday, September 17 at 7 p.m. at the Inlet Town Hall.

Lee will discuss his long career as a forest ranger with the NYS Department of Environ-mental Conservation, covering the Moose River Recreation Area and part of the West Canada Lakes area.

From 1966 to 1999, Lee and his family lived at a camp located near the Limekiln Lake entrance to the recreation area.

Among the topics Lee will discuss are his memories of missing persons, forest fires, drownings, land ownership, camp leases and other issues that were addressed during his career.

Now a licensed guide, he is known for his knowledge of plants and wildlife—especially loons and butterflies—bird identification, photography and his experiences as a trapper.

He is a long-time board member of the Arts Center of Old Forge, now View, and was a member of the Adirondack Museum’s Grounds and Garden Group for five years.

His photography has appeared in Adirondack Life magazine, and in 1991 he received the Conservationist of the Year award by the N.Y.S Conservation Council.

His weekly outdoor column, Daybreak to Twilight, appears in the Weekly Adirondack newspaper.

The public is invited. Membership forms will be available for those interested in joining the Inlet Historical Society.
