Two events planned at Old Forge Library

PHOTOGRAPHY EXHIBIT

The Old Forge Library will present an exhibit, “Photography Abhors and Empty Wall”, featuring the work of digital photographer Roy Senn. The exhibit will be on display at the library from Friday, September 9 through Monday, October 31.

Senn’s photographs emulate the work of master pictorial photographers such as Ansel Adams, Elliott Porter, and Joseph Muench.

Over the years, Senn’s work has been printed in numerous publications including Adirondack Life, National Wildlife, and Outdoor and Travel Photography Magazine.

As part of the First Friday Artwalk, the Old Forge Library will host a reception for Senn on Friday, October 7 from 1 to 3 p.m.

BOOK DISCUSSION

The New York Council for the Humanities, in collaboration with the Old Forge Library, will offer a monthly reading and discussion series at the library throughout the fall and early winter.

The program, “Reading Between the Lines: Nature Writing and the Life of the Spirit”, will be lead by writer, educator and school consultant Paula Alida Roy.

Roy will lead four discussion sessions focused on the theme and featuring the writings of 19th century American writers Emerson, Thoreau, Dickinson and Whitman.

Among the more contemporary writers to be discussed include Annie Dillard, Sue Halpern, Maxine Kumin, Donald Hall, John Muir, Robert Frost, Mary Oliver, and Wendell Berry.

An optional preliminary meeting will be held at the library on Tuesday, September 13 at 7 p.m. with Paula Roy and Izzie Worthen. First reading assignments will be distributed and the schedule of further meeting dates will be decided.

Pre-registration for this free program is required at (315) 369-6008 or Paula Roy at 369-6966.
