Glen Gosnell appointed Washington County’s Director of Public Safety

Old Forge native Glen P. Gosnell has been chosen as the next Director of Public Safety for Washington County, following the Board of Supervisor’s meeting held on September 18, 2015. He will start in his new role on October 22, 2015.

Glen is a 16-year member of the Department of Public Safety, having risen from the ranks of a Per-Diem Communications Officer, up to his current rank of Supervising Communications Officer within the Commun-ications Division.

The previous Director of Public Safety retired in June. 

Glen has extensive knowledge and experience with the county’s radio communications system and has been a member of the team representing Washington County in the Adiro-ndack Regional Interoperable Communications Consortium since its inception; the Adiron-dack Regional Interoperable Communications Consortium is made up of 14 counties north of the Mohawk River that includes Herkimer and Hamilton Counties.

He is a founding member of the county Hazardous Materials/ WMD Response Team where he served for 12 years as the Deputy HazMat Coordinator.

He has followed in the footsteps of his father Ray Gosnell and has been active in the Fire and EMS services for the last 28 years, and currently volunteers with the Old Forge Fire Department as a firefighter and Advanced Emergency Medical Technician.

Glen also served previously with the Cambridge-Greenwich Police Department in southern Washington County as a Patrol Officer.

He is a proud member of the United States Navy Reserve, currently serving as a Senior Chief Hospital Corpsman and the Command Senior Chief / Senior Enlisted Leader for Military Sealift Command Headquarters onboard at the Washington Navy yard.

Glen also served previously in the United States Air Force.

The Washington County Department of Public Safety has a staff of 25 and consists of three divisions, 9-1-1 Emergency Communications, Emergency Management, and the Haz-Mat/WMD Response Team.

The department also provides support to the county’s Bureau of Fire and Bureau of EMS.
