Old Forge Farmers’ Market starting eighth season on June 26

The Old Forge Farmers Market, located on Park Ave., behind the Old Forge Hardware,  will begin its eighth season on Friday, June 26. For the next 16 weeks until October 9—the Market will be open every Friday from 1 to 5 p.m.

Visitors to this year’s Market can expect the return of most of last year’s farm vendors, and some new vendors as well.

Market Managers Reed and Barb Proper will again be working to make sure the market experience is a good one for both vendors and customers.

“We have a good problem in that we are at capacity and have started a waiting list for available market space,” Reed said. “We look forward to meeting our friends and neighbors and our market family again this year.”

Artisans Alley will also be in operation for its third year, promoting the work of regional artisans and craftpersons.

“The connection between agricultural products and regional art is part of our traditional Adirondack heritage and the market is pleased to promote the talents of local residents,” said Nick Rose of CAP-21, market sponsor.

As with prior years, the market will be administering the Farmers Market Nutrition Program (FMNP) providing assistance to families that require nutrition support.

The Old Forge Farmers Market will also distribute market coupons to the local food pantries at St. Bartholomew’s and Niccolls Memorial churches.

The majority of market proceeds will again be used to assist local pantries through the fall and winter.

Last year almost $4,000 worth of nutrition assistance was provided to the community.

Once again, the Farmers Market invites local non-profits to promote their services and mission. Interested organizations should contact CAP-21 to schedule. CAP-21 is the administrative agent for the regional market which now participates with Adirondack Harvest as well as the Farmers Market Federation of NYS.

On behalf of CAP-21, Rose expressed continued appreciation to Old Forge Hardware for their generous donation of space for the market.
