Town of Webb Junior Band takes weekend trip to Boston

20150502_113156-01The Town of Webb Junior Band, along with several ninth graders, traveled to Boston, MA for a four-day, three-night field trip from Thursday, April 30 through Sunday, May 3.

To assist with expenses for the trip the students sponsored five fundraisers that began in September 2013.

The 36 participating students visited Lexington and Concord, Plimoth Plantation, the Adams’ Family Estate, the New Englan20150502_093236d Aquarium, and ventured into the Atlantic Ocean on a whale watch.  

On Thursday, the band performed an outdoor concert at the Craft Center at Plimoth Plantation.

Students walked several miles along the Freedom Trail in downtown Boston on Saturday, stopping at various sites including Paul Revere’s house, the Old North Church, the USS Constitution “Old Ironsides,” and the Bunker Hill Monument.

Dozens of whales were spotted during the whale watch, making it one of the highlights of the trip. The band’s tour guide was Gary Helffenstein, a true historian who has been leading Town of Webb Junior Band trips for close to 35 years.

Emily Herrmann, Town of Webb School band director and Valerie Gaudin, school choral director also chaperoned the trip.
