Albany: Senator Hugh Farley appointed to leadership post in NY State Senate

Senator Hugh T. Farley (R, C, I – Schenectady) was promoted to the Senate Leadership position of Vice President Pro Tempore of the Senate on Wednesday, March 4.

This is the third highest position in the Senate Leadership.

“I am thrilled and humbled by this appointment. I have been honored to serve in the State Senate and am pleased that my Senate colleagues have expressed their confidence in me. I will continue to work with my fellow Senators to advance policies to improve our State, promote economic development and provide needed tax relief,” Senator Farley said.

Senator Farley was first elected to the State Senate in 1976. During his tenure, he has served in positions including Chairman of the Aging, Environmental Conservation, Banks, Libraries, and Interstate Cooperation committees.

He has also been active in interstate organizations, including having served as National Chairman of the Council of State Governments.

He is an Army veteran and Professor Emeritus of Business Law at the University at Albany.

Senator Farley’s 49th Senate District currently covers all of Fulton and Hamilton Counties, and parts of Herkimer, Saratoga and Schenectady Counties.

It is geographically the second largest Senate district in New York State.
