Town of Webb Athletic Director Dave Leach officially congratulated the High School ski teams Monday at the school’s annual Sports Awards, for their success at the New York State Championships last week.
In the Alpine events, C. Lawrence won the Slalom race to earn the title of New York State individual Slalom Champion.
The second day of competition had C. Lawrence finishing 11th in the Giant Slalom, which allowed him to place ninth overall in the combined Alpine skiing events.
Medals are awarded to the top 10 places.
These results, along with those from C. Glasser, A. Levi and C. Uzdavinis gave the team just enough points to win the title of New York State Boys Alpine Ski Champions.
The girl’s Alpine team, made up of C. Barkauskas, A. Cooper, M. Gaffney, A. Sutherland, A. Hollister, A. DiOrio, with alternates L. Beckingham and B. Brownsell, finished overall in sixth place.
In the Nordic events, a Monday weather delay forced a two-day competition to be raced in one long day.
“Old Forge’s M. Greene had our best Section III finish with an 8th place spot in the 7.5 km classic distance race,” Coach Leach said.
This was followed that afternoon with a three-woman relay race, where E. Greene and R. Smith joined M. Greene to place fourth in the 3km skate event.
“Old Forge also had A. Brosemer, L. Levi and O. Phaneuf racing in these races, all showing their best in this annual event,” Leach said.
H. Uzdavinis and T. Rudolph both raced in a 10km classic distance race on Tuesday in some of the toughest terrain in the eastern United States, according to Leach.
Old Forge’s strong results along with those of other Section III skiers in the 3 km relay, had Section III finishing in fourth place at these State Cham-pionships.
An equally impressive result was having Old Forge skiers C. Glasser and A. Brosemer both chosen for the “Sportsmanship Award.”
This honor recognizes their fine team leadership abilities and results, according to Leach.
“Congratulations to all!” he said.
