The Board of Education of the Town of Webb Union Free School District voted to approve a calendar for the 2015–2016 school year with a Spring Break term that required considerable deliberation.
The calendar was approved at the Board’s Tuesday, February 17th meeting.
The Board had arrived at two potential options for scheduling of a Spring Break recess in academic year 2015–16.
Each was built around the New York State text schedule.
Option One had the Spring Break starting at the close of school on Friday, March 18, 2016.
School would return to session on Monday, April 4th.
Option Two had Spring Break starting at the close of school on Friday, April 15th, and resuming on Monday, May 2nd.
Prior to its decision, the Board of Education had received and considered feedback at two previous meetings, according to Superintendent of Schools Rex Germer.
“Calendar Option One was chosen…which has Spring Break positioned in the last two weeks of March,” he said.
This schedule also places the Easter holiday, which falls on March 27 in 2016, during the school’s Spring recess.
“It will be important to plan accordingly as this means the third through eighth grade students will only have one school day back in their seats before State Assessments begin on April 5, 2016,” Germer said on the school’s internet page.
“The Board weighed the options carefully in an attempt to best meet the academic needs of the students, while being aware of all the school sponsored extracurricular activities and the varied needs of our community,” he wrote.
