The Town of Webb Senior Activities Program now has a new name and a mission statement created by and for its participating senior citizens.
The statement reads: “The mission of the Town of Webb Senior Activity Program, here after called SHARP (Senior Health, Activity & Recreation Program), shall be to provide the Senior Citizens of the Town of Webb and surrounding communities, from Forestport to Raquette Lake, an opportunity to participate in social, physical, educational, spiritual, and communal activities in an effort to enhance their lifestyle and that of the community through these activities, as well as sharing a meal together and building relationships.
“In addition, the community shall benefit from their wealth of knowledge, talent, experience, and history.
“SHARP shall be run by and for those participating in it, with the assistance and guidance of the Senior Activities Coordinator and volunteers.
“SHARP shall be open to all regardless of race, religion, national origin, orientation, or physical ability.
“Those requiring assistance are welcome to attend with their caregiver.”
SHARP is currently sponsoring a logo design contest.
Participants are asked to submit a logo that best illustrates the program name and mission statement.
Deadline for entries is Wednesday, February 25.
During the February 25 gathering, Niccolls Church Pastor Lawrence Bartel will be telling us about walking the labyrinth on the floor of the church hall.
Other activities will include card games, puzzles and word games.
In the afternoon we will be making homemade cards.
On Sunday, March 1, we will enjoy our first off-site activity: cross-country skiing around Limekiln Lake.
We will meet at the parking lot of Arrowhead Park in Inlet at 1 p.m. and car pool to Limekiln Lake Campground.
It is a beautiful and fairly easy ski. If you would like to be part of this please call (315) 225-7553 or email activitiescoordinator4seniors@yahoo.com.
This activity is weather dependent, so let me know if you plan to attend so I will be able to communicate any changes.
Activities for March 4 will include card games, puzzles, chair Yoga and more.
We are also planning a BIG summer community event; stay tuned for future details!
Our program is free and open to independent senior citizens from Woodgate to Blue Mountain Lake.
We meet at Niccolls Church, 228 Crosby Blvd., Old Forge, every Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and lunch is generously provided by the Town of Webb Health Center Fund.
If a senior wants to come but does not have a ride, we will try to arrange for one as long as we are called far enough in advance. We suggest five days notice, but at least 24 hours in advance.
