Senior Tyler McGough, 17, lives in Woodgate and has attended the Town of Webb school since kindergarten.
He is currently exploring colleges and has narrowed his choice to four.
Next fall, Tyler hopes to attend either SUNY Delhi, Alfred University, SUNY Canton or Paul Smith’s College.
He intends to study Construction Management.
“I’ve worked with my dad in construction and building custom-made furniture for years. I knew pretty early in life that I wanted to take that route,” he said.
Tyler said his favorite class is Physics. “It involves everyday living, and it’s really interesting,” he said.
Tyler said he can’t pick just one teacher as a favorite; “They’re all pretty great,” he said.
His field position is first base for Webb’s baseball team. He was a stopper on the soccer team.
He is a member of Key Club and National Honor Society. He is also the President of Varsity Club, which he said has been rewarding.
“I like being involved in everything and, as President, I had the privilege of handing out our Columbus Day Tournament awards,” he said.
Tyler was also named King of the Columbus Day Parade this year.
Outside of school, he works in lawn care with his uncle, Eric Sutherland. On the weekends, he said he enjoys building sheds with his father.
“I also like to trap, hunt and fish,” he said.
In the winter, Tyler likes to ski and snowmobile. “I had to sell my snowmobile to buy a truck, but I still find ways to ride,” he said.
Tyler’s parents are Becky and Bill McGough of Woodgate.
Becky manages Ozzie’s Coffee Bar in Old Forge. Bill owns and operates Nature’s Treasures Rustic Furniture in Woodgate.
Tyler has an older sister, Misty, 25. His younger brother Zach, 15, also attends the Town of Webb school.
“My dad has definitely influenced me the most. He’s very dedicated, motivated and hard working,” Tyler said. “I want to follow in his footsteps.”
“My favorite memory is the fun I had on last year’s spring break. Definitely memorable,” he said.
When he leaves the area, Tyler said he will miss going out hiking and on the lake.
“If I choose Alfred State, there are some smalltown qualities it shares with Old Forge,” he said. “I will still be able to hunt and fish.”
Tyler said he is looking forward to graduation. “I’m more than ready to get out of high school,” he said.
