VIEW taking sign-ups for winter pottery classes

Registration is currently open for winter pottery classes at VIEW, the arts center in Old Forge. Sign up early; class size is limited to 10 students per class.

Bette Rintrona and Sarah Banker will instruct Sgraffito and Slip Trailing on Pottery classes on Tuesdays, January 20 through February 24 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

This six-week workshop will focus on sgraffito and slip trailing surface embellishment techniques.

Sgraffito is a technique produced by applying to an unfired ceramic body two successive layers of contrasting slip, and then case scratching so as to produce an outline drawing.

Slip trailing is the application to a clay surface of lines of slip using a fine-pointed dispenser.

Participants will work with slabs to build flat and volumetric forms that will then be decorated.

Classes will alternate between building the forms and decorating them.

The fee is $150 for non-members and $125 for member of VIEW, with an additional$35 materials fee.

Space is limited and advanced registration is required for most workshops.
