In recognition of Veterans Day, Anne Phinney’s fifth grade class at the Town of Webb School was one of seven classrooms in Herkimer and Oneida counties selected to participate in an essay contest sponsored by The Battle of Oriskany Post No. 55, Masonic War Veterans of New York.
The topic of the essay was, What the Veterans Mean to Me, and the winner was Mrs. Phinney’s student, Jameson Pratt.
Tom Beckingham and Bob Jones, members of the post, came to the school on Thursday, November 13 to present Jameson with his prize of a $25 gift certificate to Barnes & Noble.
They were joined by Vietnam war veteran and Old Forge native Pete Beckingham.
Jameson is the son of Jason and Kelly Pratt of Big Moose.
What the Veterans Mean to Me
by Jameson Pratt
Wonderful people fighting for our freedoms.
I think it is amazing that they risked their lives for our country!
I think Veterans probably saved thousands of lives!
I would think we have the best Veterans in the World!
Veterans are wonderful people and I would like to meet every one of them and say thank you.
