Service set for Shirley E. Peacock, 90

Shirley E. Peacock, 90, a native and life resident of Old Forge, and wife of William Y. passed away on Sunday, November 9, 2014, at Sunset Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Boonville, where she had resided since 2012.

She was born on August 24, 1924, a daughter of William and Noreen Wormwood Ball.  Shirley grew up on North Street and graduated from Town of Webb High School, Old Forge.  

For many years she was employed as a telephone operator for General Telephone Co. of Old Forge, achieving the position of Chief Operator. Later Mrs. Peacock was employed at D  & D Grocery Store and Helme’rs Fuel and Trucking Co., both of Old Forge.

On October 10, 1946, Shirley was united in marriage with William Y. Peacock, in Old Forge, with Rev. Frank A. Reed officiating.

Mrs. Peacock was a member of Niccolls Memorial Church, Old Forge; in earlier years she served as pianist at the church.

She was also a member of North Woods Chapter OES. She enjoyed knitting, painting and crafts; she and her husband greatly enjoyed traveling.

In addition to her husband, Shirley is survived by her nephews: Chris (Sharon) Pashley, Mike (Beth) Pashley, Matt Ball; and three great-nephews.

She was predeceased by her sister and brother-in-law: Gladys and Robert Pashley, and by a brother and sister-in-law: William and Gail Ball.

Relatives and friends are invited to her graveside service on Monday, November 17, at 10 a.m. at Riverview Cemetery, Old Forge, where Rev. Lawrence Bartel, pastor of Niccolls Memorial Church, Old Forge, will officiate. There are no calling hours.

Her arrangements are in care of Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. Boonville. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
