Family-friendly workshops scheduled for Thanksgiving weekend at VIEW

Registration is now open for family-friendly workshops and classes at VIEW that will be held over Thanksgiving weekend.

Yoga classes will be held Friday and Saturday, November 28 and 29 at 8:30 a.m. Chair Yoga classes, led by certified Lakshmi Voelker Chair Yoga Instructor Kathy Queen, will be available on Friday, November 28 at 11 a.m. 

Chair oga s a gentle form of yoga that is practiced sitting on a chair, or standing using a chair for support. Complicated maneuvers and complex movements are not present in a chair yoga class. Fee for either class is $10, $7 for VIEW members.

Learn to make a Fused Glass Night Light at a Friday workshop that will be held from 3 to 4 p.m.

The workshop is suitable for all ages; children under 10 will be restricted to pre-cut glass.

Using various shapes, colors, and types of glass, create a one-of-a-kind night light.

Pieces are fired in the kiln overnight and will be available for pickup the following afternoon. The fee is $18, $15 for VIEW members.

Tie Dye a Snowman on a T-shirt or Pillowcase at a Sunday workshop from 9 to 10 a.m. Instructions and all materials are supplied.  pre-soaked shirt or pillowcase is folded, scrunched and/or twisted.

The pattern of the folds and placement of the dyes dictates the resulting design of a snowman.

The activity takes about 30 minutes. Take your piece and finishing instructions with you or return the next day to embellish your piece. Fees range from $12 to $15.

Paint on Pottery Open Studio will be held from 10:30 a.m. to noon on Saturday. Reservations are suggested for this highly popular activity.

No experience is needed and it is suitable for all ages. Choose from an extensive selection of unfinished pottery, from figurines to large serving platters.

Paints, brushes and assistance is provided. Pieces will be fired in the kiln and ready for pick up the following afternoon. ll materials used are nontoxic, dishwasher-, microwave-, and oven-safe. Prices per piece range from $3 to $25.

Create a Rustic Pine Cone Wreath at a workshop on Saturday from 1 to 3 p.m.Using locally gathered pinecones and chicken wire, participants will create a one-of-a-kind wreath.

The fee is $50 or $40 VIEW members.

Make a Twig Pencil at a workshop on Saturday from 3:30 to 4 p.m. Using locally gathered branches, a drill, sand paper, glue, and pencil lead, create a unique writing instrument. The fee is $10 or $8 for VIEW members.

Space is limited and advanced registration is required for the workshops.
