Pipe-gate made easy: Keys to understanding Forestport’s latest scandal

1. The pipe fittings arrived at Town Hall in late August on a dump truck without any notice as described in statement by myself and both Water System employees.

2. The driver said they needed to get them off the truck ASAP.

3. AFTER My short discussion with the water personnel, it was agreed we couldn’t off-load approximatly three tons of pipe fittings at Town Hall.

4. I told them to put the materials on my private storage lot for the time being.

5. They were stolen sometime before mid-September.

6. My storage lot is very secluded and the fittings were off-loaded close to the last of four storage buildings. You cannot see the storage area from the road.

7. The culprit stole the pipe fittings while ignoring a lot of valuable scrap in the engine storage bay 50 feet away.

8. Very few people know about this storage area nor would they have the means to remove these heavy pipe fittings.

9. I myself have no means to remove such items. Obviously the Highway Department knew and had the means to remove them. These pipe fittings had been in a storage trailer at the highway garage since 1996 with no need for them. I don’t believe they were stolen for scrap. I believe they were stolen to embarrass me.

10. I am inviting Bill G., George H., David U. and a couple of others to join me for a polygraph test next week, and we will all see.

11. The town is offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to an arrest. Please call the Onerida County Sheriff’s office or the Town Hall.
