As the leaves fall and the temperatures plummet, the holiday season will soon be upon us. Believe it or not it’s time to start thinking about those Christmas lists!
It’s a blessing to be able to share gifts, large and small, with the people we love. Why not double that blessing by purchasing items at a fair trade sale?
The Niccolls Mission Committee will be holding their annual Alternative Christmas Market after both services on Sunday, November 16.
Featured will be a variety of items from the SERRV consignment sale, African beaded jewelry, Fair Trade coffee, tea and cocoa as well as the opportunity to make a gift to Church World Service in honor of a loved one.
These items represent the crafts and labor of artisans around the world, reaching as far as Indonesia and Thailand and as near as Native American reservations in the United States.
The sale will not only bring unique items and gift opportunities to us here in Old Forge but will also provide reasonable wages to people around the world, allowing them to increase their quality of living and access things that we consider standard.
Think of the amount spent in the United States alone each year on holiday gifts, decorations and seasonal food items.
By purchasing from the sale and other Fair Trade opportunities, you exchange your hard-earned dollars for cherished gifts but also for school fees to further education, food items to provide nutrition and clothing to cover and protect the body.
You provide financial training and small business loans to those in need. You help create a more fair, just world—and what better gift can there be than that?
Join us in the Fellowship Hall Sunday, November 16 from 8 to 9 a.m. and again from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. We look forward to sharing this year’s selection with you.
