Kindergartners at the Town of Webb School took a field trip to the Old Forge Post Office on Friday, October 3, where they mailed their first letters of the school year to pen pals at Long Lake Central School.
Kindergarten teacher Hannah Payne launched the pen pal program last year, with the first and second grade teachers also getting their students involved in the letter writing exercise.
At the end of the school year, the students got to meet their pen pals at a picnic and enjoyed a day of play together.
Ms. Payne said the post office trip was also a cap-off to the students’ week-long lesson on community helpers.
They were given a tour of the facility by Postmaster Rich Ventura and staff members Sarah Hulser and Lonnie Price, who explained how the students’ letters will reach their destination.
