Fire personnel from across New York state took part in the Old Forge Fire Department’s 48th Annual Firefighter’s Drill School on Friday and Saturday, September 12 and 13th.
Among the weekend activities were indoor and outdoor instructional programs, the Push Ball Competition and the Firefighters Parade up Main Street, which went on despite cold and rainy conditions.
Participating fire departments were judged in a number of categories during the parade.
The winners were as follows:
Best Appearing Department with Music: 1st – Stittville Fire Department; 2nd – Lyncourt Fire Department.
Best Appearing Department without Music: 1st – Colonie Fire Department; 2nd – Oriskany Fire Department; 3rd – Westmoreland Fire Department.
Best Appearing Saluting Officer: Stittville Fire Department.
Best Appearing Auxiliary: 1st – Chatham Fire Department; 2nd – Shaker Road Fire Department.
Best Appearing Color Guard: Oriskany Fire Department.
Most Men in Line: Colonie Fire Department.
Best Appearing Veterans Group: Old Forge American Legion Post 893.
Best Appearing Antique Apparatus: Westmoreland Fire Department.
Oldest Antique Apparatus: Forestport Fire Department.
Furthest Distance Traveled: Goodwill Fire Department, New Jersey.
Best Appearing Apparatus: Sylvan Beach Fire Department.
Push Ball: 1st – Cicero Fire Department; 2nd Fairmount Fire Department; 3rd – Old Forge Fire Department (relinquished trophy to Belgium Fire Department).
