Ladies From Syracuse: VIEW to host cabaret performance, September 18th

Ladies from Syracuse, a cabaret-style show featuring award-winning singers Karen Oberlin and Marissa Mulder will be performed at VIEW on Thursday, September 18.

The singers, accompanied by Bill Zeffiro on piano, will present a two hour concert of classic pop, jazz and musical standards.

The performance is at 7:30 p.m. and tickets are $25 or $20 for members.

Hailed as one of the premier interpreters of the Great American Songbook by both the New York Times and London’s Classical Source, Oberlin was the 2013 recipient of the Mabel Mercer Foundation’s prestigious Donald F. Smith Award.

She appeared in more than 100 off-Broadway performances of the smash-hit show, Our Sinatra.

Oberlin, who played Maureen in the first staged incarnation of the now-legendary Broadway show, Rent, has appeared in independent and feature films, as well as on TV.

Marissa Mulder, a native of Syracuse, made her debut at, Don’t Tell Mama, under the direction of her mentor, Karen Oberlin.

Stephen Hanks of Broadway World wrote in 2013, “If anyone in the world of New York cabaret could be said to have had a breakout year in 2013; it would have to be Marissa Mulder.”

She was the winner of 2013 Noël Coward Cabaret Award competition made possible by the Noël Coward Foundation where she took gold.

Nick Ziobro, the young Syracuse-area singer who recently performed before a sold-out crowd at VIEW, earned silver at the same contest.

A cash bar of wine, beer, and non-alcoholic drinks will be available.

Tickets can be purchased by calling VIEW at (315) 369-6411 ext. 201, or online at www.ViewArts.org.
