Old Forestport Days festivities slated Saturday, Aug. 23

Old Forestport Days, a community day-long event that celebrates the downtown area of Forestport and the town’s 144th birthday will be held on Saturday, August 23,  rain or shine.

The focus of the Festival is to provide food, fun and festivities to kids of all ages in the area. 

Beginning at 1 p.m.,  Forest-port Volunteer Firemen with host their 4th annual Water Ball Contest at the firehouse.

Some of the featured events throughout the day include the Firemen’s Chicken BBQ at noon and an Indoor Garage Sale at the Firehouse.

There are plenty of bargains at the St. Patrick Church Thrift Shop as well as town-wide Garage Sales.

Members of the Fire Depart-ment will also serve burgers and hot dogs with side salads

There will be music compliments of Doug Altrock’s DEA at the Firehouse Beer Garden.

The Annual Slow Pitch Softball Tourney and BBQ will be held at the Dutch Hill Field with organizer T.J. Paschke expecting seven teams to participate.

The tournament will start on Friday evening and a champion will be declared on Saturday evening.

A Chicken BBQ is also available at the ball field.

Cook up your most creative hors d’oeuvres and bring it to Scooter’s by 1 p.m. for judging in the 6th Annual Cooking Contest, again coordinated by Clare Rieben.

The Forestport Diner will also offer special meals and snacks on River Road.

THE Presbyterian Church will host a Strawberry Festival and indoor sale.

New to this year’s roster of events is a Pet Contest organized by Tony Sege at 12:30 p.m. and a Classic Car Cruise-In organized by Cheryl and John Baumes. Cars will be displayed at the St. Patrick Churck parking lot from noon to 6 p.m.

Roger McLauglin will provide Horse Drawn Wagon Rides throughout the town and up by the ball field. The rides are sponsored by C & R Hardware.

And if you want to have more fun, don’t miss the 8th Annual “Anything BUT a Soap Box Derby” coordinated by John and Ann Mason and family. The action gets underway at 4 p.m. on the River Street course.

A Zumba® for Kids of All Ages Dance Party will be featured in the Kids Fun Zone at 2 p.m., along with games organized by Girl Scout Troop 2. The Kids Fun Zone is open from noon to 4 p.m.

Saturday’s entertainment also includes live music by Redneck Train Wreck beginning at 6:30 p.m.

The festivities will end with a town-sponsored fireworks display over the Forestport Pond at dark by Majestic Fireworks.
