Services set for Matthew P. Bolmer, 81

Matthew P. “Matt” Bolmer, 81, of Yorkville, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 19, 2014 at Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare Center in New Hartford, with his loving family by his side.Matthew Bolmer

Matt was born on June 17, 1933 in Utica, the son of Frederick, Sr. and Sadie (Ryes) Bolmer. He was raised and educated in Old Forge, graduating from Town of Webb High School.

Matt went on to serve his country with the U.S. Army during the Korean War. In 1959, Matt married Teresa (Terri) Bartelotte, sharing a union of 32 years until her passing in 1991. On June 24, 1995, Matt married Anita Bartelotte, with whom he spent the rest of his life.  

After his service, he was employed for several years with the Town of Webb Highway Department. He then went to work for the New York State Department of Transportation, retiring in 1991.

Matt was a member and Past Commander of the Utica American Legion Post #229, a member of the Molson Jones VFW Post # 7393, a 40-year member of the Yorkville Fire Department, where he had served on the Board of Directors, and a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles, 97 Aerie in Utica.

In his younger years, Matt was a high school standout basketball player and always took great pride in his achievements. He was an avid fisherman, and also enjoyed golfing and bowling. Matt was a member of the Church of the Sacred Heart and St. Mary Our Lady of Czestochowa in New York Mills.

Matt is survived by his wife, Anita Bolmer, Yorkville; two daughters and a son-in-law, Anita and Richard Rahn, Deerfield, Lisa Bolmer and her fiancé, Joe Newton, Yorkville; two grandsons, Steven Matthew and Brandon Michael, as well as his “four-legged grandson”, AJ Newton; a sister-in-law, Arlene (Mrs. Frederick, Jr.) Bolmer, Old Forge.  He is predeceased by a brother, Frederick Bolmer, Jr.

Mr. Bolmer’s funeral will be held on Saturday, August 23, 2014 at 9:15 a.m. from the Heintz Funeral Home, 408 Herkimer Rd., N. Utica and at 10 a.m. at Church of the Sacred Heart and St. Mary Our Lady of Czestochowa, where his Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated.

Interment will take place in Riverview Cemetery, Old Forge at 12:30 p.m. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the funeral home, Friday, August 22 from 4 to 7 p.m.

The Yorkville Fire Depart-ment and their Ladies Auxiliary will honor Matt at 6 p.m., Friday evening, at the funeral home.

The family offers their thanks and heartfelt appreciation to Dr. Kevin McCormick, Dr. Stanley Weiselberg, Dr. Mark Schug, Dr. Emile Wassel, Dr. Sushma Kaul, Dr.Ashok R. Patel, as well as the staff of the Critical Care Unit at Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare Center for the care and kindness given to Matt while in their care.
