Darryl Green, a former Old Forge resident and graduate of Town of Webb UFSD, recently published his second children’s book to great acclaim, Green having been nominated for a prestigious Georgia “Author of the Year” award for 2014.
The book, titled “Five More of You,” is co-authored by Darryl’s wife, Mary Rose, whose educational background served to enhance the book’s teaching value.
It is illustrated by renowned illustrator Valerie Bouthyette.
Five More of You is a kindergarten through third grade level, theme-driven book that entertains with humor while offering gentle messages.
“It’s the story of a young couple who decide to start a family and are soon blessed with two children,” Darryl said.
“Because the kids are such a joy, the young parents consider having more,” he said.
From there the story takes a creative turn.
As Mom and Dad ponder the implications of increasing their lot, the reader is offered a humorous view of what life may be like if one, two, three, four or even five more children were added to the family.
The story is told in rhyme and is sure to bring amusement to children and parents, according to FutureWord, its publisher.
Darryl graduated from Town of Webb in 1981 and went on to earn SUNY undergraduate and graduate degrees.
From an early age, he had a passion for reading and writing.
He has lived in several states and worked in a variety of interesting—and not so interesting—jobs, he said.
Darryl is an IT Professional by day, a father and husband 24×7 and a writer whenever he can find the time.
Since he is a bit of an insomniac, he often finds himself writing at all hours of the night.
When he’s not writing or working, Darryl said he is usually outdoors spending time with his family, exercising or building or fixing something.
Prior to “Five More of You” Darryl and Mary Rose co-authored the children’s book, “Jake and the Buggy Melee.”
Darryl has also written for various business/academic publications.
Mary Rose (Giruzzi) Green is a native of Utica.
She is a career Educator who specializes in math and reading and has taught from the primary to college levels.
She also authors educational articles, such as “Meter Street.”
Darryl and Mary Rose are the parents of two daughters.
Darryl and Mary Rose will be signing books and chatting with readers at the Authors’ Fair in Old Forge, on Tuesday, July 22.
The booksigning event is being held outdoors on the Forge Motel Knoll, from 1 to 4 p.m.
They will also be at Inlet’s Adirondack Reader and the Old Forge Hardware, on July 25.
