Services held for Nicholas P. Spring, Jr., 76

Nicholas Spring passed away peacefully on Friday, June 27 with his devoted and loving wife Joan Spring by his side at Faxton-St. Luke’s Critical Care Unit.

Nick proudly served in the U.S. Army as a paratrooper in the Signal Company 11th Airborne Division. He served for three years at Fort Campbell and in Germany.

On October 10, 1998 Nick was joined in marriage with Joan Palmer at the Raquette Lake Chapel. Together they built a home on the Moose River in Old Forge.

Nick was an entrepreneur. For several years he was a plumber and pipefitter working in many areas around the country. He was also a member of the Plumber and Pipefitters Local Union #112.

Eventually he assumed a partnership role in his father’s business, Spring and Pole Mechanical Contracting located in Utica, NY.

He was also a partner in several restaurants including T. McGee’s and T. Riley’s, as well as holding an interest in many local property renovations. At one time Nick was an officer and member of the Mohawk Valley Builder’s Exchange.

Nick loved the outdoors and was an avid sportsman who enjoyed fishing, hunting and trapping. The walls of his home told the exciting stories of his life and were always the fodder for interesting tales. Nick was an avid Syracuse basketball fan. He and his wife spent many enjoyable and treasured winters in Ponce Inlet and Daytona Beach Shores, Florida.

Nick is survived by his devoted and loving wife Joan, his cherished sons and daughters-in-law, Nick and Emilia Borelli of Remsen, NY, Kit and Jill Spring of Englewood, CO and John and Annie Spring of Grafton, MA.

He leaves four grandchildren, Cooper Borelli, Sam, Bella and Tanner Spring.

Also surviving him is a brother and sister-in-law Leland and Debbie Bates of Batavia, OH, brother-in-law John Obermeyer of North Bend, Ohio, as well as sister and brothers-in-law Carol and Joe Conigliaro of Utica, NY and Phyllis Palmer and Wally Elliott of Burlington, VT, along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.

He was pre-deceased by his father, Nicholas Spring, mother, Minnie Bates, sister Sylvia Obermeyer and mother and father-in-law Earl and Ellen Palmer.

The family would like to thank Dr. Socash, Dr. Wassel, Dr. Kashtanova and Dr. Gaffney as well as the staff at the critical care unit of Faxton-St. Luke’s Hospital.

The funeral was held on Tuesday, July 1 at St. Bartholo-mew’s Catholic Church in Old Forge. Interment followed at Riverview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, friends may consider a donation to a charity of their choice.
