The Birches: A golden gift for three generations

By Guest Contributors Kathy Tortorello and Mary Lou Arps, Granddaughters of Emma and Roy Rogers

For the third time in 61 years, a 50th wedding anniversary will be celebrated at the Fourth Lake camp, the Birches, the family home.

It all began in 1953 with the golden anniversary of Emma and Roy Rogers, Inlet’s pioneers and former owners of the Neodak Hotel.

Thirty years later, in 1983, their daughter Ella and her husband Walter Moran enjoyed a family gathering at the Birches commemorating their love that began in the Adirondacks.

This year our Birches family will join together in Inlet to celebrate our third golden milestone. Diane Moran, granddaughter of Emma and Roy Rogers, married Ray Tyrrell of Suffern, NY on June 20, 1964. Diane and Ray have four children and 13 grandchildren.

Summers on Fourth Lake have always been the meeting place for the Tyrrell family and their cousins.

The legacy of love for family and the Birches is a gift handed down by this three generations: Emma and Roy Rogers, Walter and Ella Moran, and Diane and Ray Tyrrell.
