Services planned for Tim R. Durkin, 59

Tim R. Durkin, 59, of Inlet and formerly of Rochester, died June 5, 2014 at his residence following a brief illness, with his wife at his side.Dirkin photo 2

He was born August 7, 1954, in Rochester, a son of Glen C. and Joan (LaForce) Durkin. Tim graduated in 1972 from East Ridge High School in Irondequoit, and in 1977 from Rochester Institute of Technology. He was united in marriage with the former Gaylynn “Lynn” Farr on June 8, 1996 in Rochester.

Tim began his career with Eastman Kodak Company in 1974 as a Mechanical Engineer, and retired in 2005 as Vice President of Global Logistics. During his years at Kodak in addition to Rochester, he lived in Mexico and China, and often travelled to England, Ireland and apan.

Family vacations in earlier years introduced the Inlet area to Tim, and his fondness for the people and places there led him and his wife to move to Inlet following his retirement from Kodak.

Soon after establishing a new home in Inlet, Tim embarked on a new adventure by accepting positions as Codes Enforcement Officer and Assessor with the Town of Inlet, positions he held from December 2008 until March 2014. His desire to help people was apparent by the manner in which he performed his duties.

Tim enjoyed fly fishing, boating, travel, golf, and horseback riding with his wife (when they were known as “Team Durkin”). He was an avid reader, and a student of World War II history.

At the age of 15, he earned his Private Pilot License. He looked forward to spending time with his friends at the Inlet Golf Club.

Survivors include his wife, Lynn; his mother, Joan Durkin; a sister, Susan Speer, her husband, Charles, and their children, Lorraine and Veronica; a brother, Mark, his wife, Lisa, and their children Zachary and Patrick. He also leaves two feline friends, Tux and Callie. Tim was predeceased by his father, Glen, and “Bob the Cat.”

His family would like to thank the entire staff at High Peaks Hospice and Palliative Care for their kindness and care; the Town of Inlet staff for their love and friendship, many residents of Inlet for their caring and support, and the Inlet Volunteer Emergency Services (IVES) for their professionalism.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Inlet Golf Club on Sunday, July 27, 2014 from 6  until 9 p.m. A second Celebration will be held at the Shadow Lake Golf Club in Rochester on Thursday, August 21, 2014 from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m.

Kindly consider a contribution in Tim’s memory to IVES, P.O. Box 300, Inlet, NY 13360 or the Inlet Public Library, P.O. Box 274, Inlet, NY 13360.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Dimbleby, Friedel, Williams & Edmunds Funeral Home in Old Forge. Online messages of sympathy may be left at www.dfwefh.com.
