Town of Webb Highway Department personnel were busy this past week replacing an old culvert that runs along Railroad Ave., across from the former highway garage.
According to Highway Superintendent Casey Crofut, the 30-year-old culvert was beginning to show signs of deterioration and in the last year was periodically getting clogged.
The workers dug up the old galvanized drain pipes and replaced them with approximately 200 feet of plastic piping, and also created a catch basin that will take water from the surface of the stretch of property.
The new system will enable the department to gain easier access for cleaning should it get blocked by debris or sediment.
Once the pipe is laid and completely covered, Crofut said some stone will be laid around the area to make it more aesthetically pleasing. He anticipates the work to be finished sometime next week
