High School senior, Tecwyn Williams, 17, has lived in Okara Lakes all his life, and in the fall he plans to attend Paul Smith’s College to study Fishery and Wildlife.
“Growing up in the Adirondacks made me realize how much I love the outdoors,” he said.
Tecwyn said particularly enjoys hunting and fishing.
“I hunt after school with my friends. I’m going to miss that a lot when I’m at college,” he said.
And Tecwyn is confident that he is on a fulfilling track with his course of study.
“I think it could possibly lead to one day becoming a forest ranger, like my grandpa,” he said.
Other than his academic classes, Tecwyn said he enjoys chorus. He was selected for two solos for this year’s spring concert.
He is a member of Varsity Club and Key Club.
In April of 2014, he was named the Kiwanis Club of the Central Adirondacks’ Student of the Month.
Teqwyn plays center field in baseball, and he’s a cross-country skier with the Polar Bear Ski Club.
He also plays soccer, which is his favorite sport. He said he plans to try out for Paul Smith’s soccer team.
“I’m already looking forward to coming home in October to play in the Columbus Day weekend Alumni game,” he said.
Even in winter, Tecwyn said he likes to spend time outdoors. He goes out snowshoeing and snowmobiling, which he says he’s going to miss a lot when he leaves.
His parents are Lisa and Jim Williams. Lisa is a flight attendant for U.S. Airways out of New Jersey, and Jim is a self-employed contractor.
He has one brother, Forrest, 19, who graduated from the Town of Webb school in 2013. He is currently attending college in Virginia.
Tecwyn said his grandfather, Mart Allen, has influenced him the most.
“He used to take me hunting and fishing when I was growing up; he taught me a lot,” he said.
Tecwyn is excited for graduation for a number of reasons, he said.
One being that his birthday falls on graduation day. “I’m looking forward to it, it’s going to be a fun day.”
This summer, he is planning on working for Doug Reidman.
Tecwyn said he’s miss his two dogs, also, when he leaves for college. Missy is his poodle; Lilly, a beagle, is his companion when he goes rabbit hunting.
“I’m going to miss them a lot,” he said.
