The Town of Webb is seeking individuals interested in serving four-year terms as Marriage Officers. MaryAnn Nelson, whose term expires on May 9, 2014, is currently the only town-appointed officer, according to Webb Clerk Nanci Russell.
Even with Nelson committing to another term—and Town Justices John Graham and James Miller eligible to conduct marriages—a void remains in accommodating the growing demand of individuals wanting to say their marriage vows in one of the communities encompassing the Town of Webb, Russell said.
According to New York Domestic Relations Law Section 11-C, the town can appoint one or more marriage officers who have the authority to solemnize a marriage which is valid if performed in accordance with other provisions of law.
A marriage officer must be 18 years of age or older, reside in the municipality by which they are appointed, and has the authority to solemnize a marriage within the territory of the municipality which makes the appointment.
A marriage officer receives a salary or wage in an amount determined by the municipality making the appointment.
More information is available by calling Russell at (315) 369-6799, or by stopping by the clerk’s office located at the town office building at 3140 State Route 28 in Old Forge.
