Old Forge resident Anne Garbarino will be a write-in candidate for the five-year position on the Town of Webb UFSD Board of Education.
Born, raised and educated in Utica, Garbarino is a 1966 graduate of St. Mary’s College, Notre Dame, IN. She received her Masters in Teaching from Oklahoma City University in 1974.
Prior to becoming a full-time resident of Old Forge in 2002 when she and her late husband purchased Four Seasons Cottages on Fourth Lake, she had a 30-plus-year career as a pre-school and elementary school teacher, as well as instructing high school social studies. Certified in several states, she has taught in Toronto, Texas, Virginia and Massachusetts. She is also a certified Montesorri teacher.
In her retirement, Garbarino has enjoyed her volunteer work at View, Hope House of Utica, and with the Elizabeth Seton Foundation, a Dominican Republic charity. She is also an active member of the Pointed Pine Quilters quilting group.
“I have considered running for the school board in the past, but didn’t feel that I had the time needed to dedicate myself to it. Now I do. I expect this to be a learning experience and look forward to keeping abreast of educational issues affecting the students at Town of Webb School,” Garbarino said.
