Town of Webb UFSD Board of Education meets April 24th

The Town of Webb UFSD Board of Education held a meeting on Thursday, April 24, where it took the actions summarized as follows (not official minutes).

Approved the Minutes of April 1, 2014 meeting.

Approved the Warrants and Claims.

Approved the Treasurer’s Report for March 2014

Approved the Property Tax Report Card for 2014-2015

Approved the Committee on Special Education Recom-mendations.

Approved the 2014-2015 proposed administrative budget, $3,838,354, of the Jefferson-Lewis-Hamilton-Herkimer-Oneida BOCES as mailed to component districts and presented at the Annual Meeting.

A ballot for BOCES Board of Education candidates was cast: Mrs. Alice Draper (incumbent), Mrs. Barbara Lofink (incumbent), Mrs. Grace Rice (incumbent) the term of office for each vacancy is (3) three years beginning July 1, 2014 and concludes on June 30, 2017 on the Jefferson-Lewis BOCES Board of Cooperative Educational Services.

Approved the Education Course Credit Requests as submitted by Robert Fountain.

Approved the Sick Bank days for a CSEA member.

Special Topics included: A Property Tax Report Card review was presented by Jenn Dunn.

Principal’s Report: 

NYS 3-8 ELA testing concluded before break with flexibility and hard work from everyone involved. Scoring took place on Monday, 4/21 with our 3-8 teachers traveling to Lowville.

NYS 3-8 Math testing will take place Wednesday, 4/30, Thursday, 5/1 and Friday, 5/2 of next week.  arents are encouraged to make sure their children get 8 hours of sleep and eat a healthy breakfast in the morning.

On Tuesday night, 4/23 eb Church was announced as the award winner from Jefferson-Lewis BOCES as Educational Office Professional of the Year.  andis Griffin and Mr. Swick went to speak on her behalf at an awards dinner in Watertown.

Bus drills were completed this week for K-12 and are finished for the year.

The first book study meeting for staff took place today for the group of faculty/staff who are reading, “How Full is Your Bucket?”

The K-5 students met their PARP goal for reading this year.  r. Germer and Mr. Swick squared off in an archery competition the day before break with a packed audience. The outcome is still being disputed by our judges!

Kandis Griffin took 11th grade students for a tour of Onondaga and LeMoyne colleges today with Nate Smith.

On Tuesday, 4/22 Mr. T. Leach accompanied five students on a field trip to the Herkimer County Courthouse to present Herkimer County Legislators with a proposal to improve the roadways in the county.

Grades K-2 were treated to a tour of the Town of Webb’s Highway and Police vehicles as part of their transportation unit on Thursday, 4/3 in our front bus circle.

Students in grades 9-12 were given a presentation on the dangers of distracted driving by Brendan McGrath and Kandis Griffin on 4/2. Students were challenged to not text and drive and to encourage others to do the same.
