Services held for Edward M. Wondro, 89

Edward M. Wondro, 89, of New Hartford passed away on Saturday, March 29, 2014 at Faxton-St. Luke’s Health-care with his family by his side.

Ed was born on November 1, 1924 in Pottsville, PA, the son of Ignatius and Josephine (Stabingas) Wondro. He left high school at age 17 to enlist in the Army, where he served as a Medical Technician during WWII in the Pacific Theater attaining the rank of Sergeant.    

Upon his return from the war, Ed graduated from UFA and went on to the Utica State Hospital School of Nursing earning his RN. He then enrolled in the Albany Medical College School of Anesthesiology earning his medical degree as a Certified  Registered Nurse Anesthetist.

As an Anesthetist, he was employed by Utica State Hospital retiring in 1986.  Additionally he worked at Faxton and St. Luke’s Hospitals, where he assisted in the delivery of hundreds of babies. On October 16, 1948, he married Eleanor Malecki, a blessed union of 65 years. Ed was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church where he served as a trustee.

Ed was a loving husband, father and grandfather who was devoted to his family. He cherished time spent attending his children’s and grandchildren’s games, concerts and all family events. He loved gathering at the family camp at Big Moose where many happy family memories were made.

Surviving Ed is his beloved wife, Eleanor; daughters and a son-in-law, Pamela Wondro Cooper of Liverpool and Deborah and Mark Kinderman of Whitesboro; grandchildren and spouses Andrew and Allison Kinderman, Travis Kinderman and his fiancée, Melissa Johnson and Reed and Savanna Kinderman; great grandson, Alexander Nathan Kinder-man and many nieces and nephews.

Ed was predeceased by his son, Dr. Mark Wondro in 1988, son-in-law, Ralph A. Cooper in 2013 and three sisters, Julia Kolwaite, Elaine Chorozak and Elizabeth Luczko.

Relatives and friends are invited and may call Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Myslinski Funeral Home, 470 French Rd., Utica. Funeral services will be Thursday, April 3 at 8:45 a.m. from the funeral home and 9:30 a.m. from Holy Trinity Catholic Church, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment will be in Holy Trinity Cemetery, Yorkville.

In lieu of flowers, remembrances in Ed’s name may be made to the Memorial Fund of Holy Trinity Catholic Church. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
