Friday, March 14th has come and gone and despite the wind and cold temperatures the greater community of Old Forge was out in force to celebrate the annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade.
Chippy O’Kiefer and His Highness Timmy O’Foley—official progenitors of this homegrown even—admit the parade has taken on a life of its own.
This well-timed event, given our endless cold winter, has provided opportunity to recharge our spirits and even consume some.
I realized that this must be good for us when I saw my doctor in the TOW Bar and my dentist near it.
All participants are to be congratulated and complimented for an outstanding participation. As for my own unofficial review I would rate the following:
#1. It was a great honor to have Erin Hamlin and her family as Grand Marshals. For Old Forge’s McCauley Mountain, this is another compliment adding to the list of Olympic athletes who learned to ski there.
#2. This is tough because royalty should trump Olympians—but this is my review, and besides, I did bow twice when the ROYAL FOLEYS passed buy…..or was I picking up candy??
#3. Third place (like Bronze) is still a great honor and I have decided to award this to the duo of Chip and Dale! At first approach, the participants were unknown to me… newcomers? Interlopers??
I quickly recognized who they were and understood that their strict regimen of training, at local establishments, combined with classical dance skills and impeccable taste in costume choice, made them the all-too-obvious choice.
Their svelte, hypnotic and perhaps intoxicating moves are an obvious result of Dale’s morning workout program at Ozzie’s and Chip’s good upbringing… it takes a Village.
So, in a town where we have two seasons—winter and waiting for winter—let the wait begin.
