Town of Webb Alpine Racers compete at New York State Championships

Racers from the Town of Webb School Alpine Ski Team who were named to the NY State Championship Team competed in the state championships at Bristol Mountain in Canandaigua on Monday and Tuesday, February 24 and 25th.

TOW School Alpine Team: Griffin Kleps, Chloe Barkauskas, Cy Barkauskas, Conner Glasser, Carter Lawrence, Hunter Lawrence, Ally Cooper, John Gaffney, Lauren Beckingham, Corey Down, Coach Tom Down.

Sixty-three athletes on each of the boys and girls teams, representing eight sections throughout the state, competed in the championships.

In the Girls Slalom, Chloe Barkauskas came in 34th. In the Girls Giant Slalom, Ally Cooper took 30th; Chloe Barkauskas, 31st; and Mara Gaffney, 38th.

In the Boys Slalom, Cy Barkauskas came in 7th place (medaled), Carter Lawrence in 9th (medaled), and Connor Glasser, 31st place.

In the Boys Giant Slalom, Cy Barkauskas came in 10th place, Carter Lawrence 17th, and Corey Down 22nd.

Each section has one school compete at the state level as a team. Others who qualify for states from the section compete for individual results and sectional results.

Representing the Old Forge Girls Team were Chloe Barkauskas, Mara Gaffney and Ally Cooper who came in sixth out of eight teams.

Representing the Old Forge Boys Team were Corey Down, Cy Barkauskas, and Carter Lawrence who came in second out of eight teams. Both the Section III Boys and Girls Teams finished third of the eight sections competing.

Following the competition, each section selects one girl and one boy as the recipient of the Sports-manship award. Corey Down received the award for Section III.

“This is a really great group of athletes. They have been a pleasure to work with and are great representatives of our school,” said Coach Tom Down.
