Webb Board of Ed. meets, Webb Way winning grades announced

The Town of Webb UFSD Board of Education held a meeting on Tuesday, November 19, 2013 at 6:30 p.m., where it took the following action. This report is a summary and does not represent approved minutes:

Approved the Minutes of November 5, 2013 meeting.

Approved the Warrants and Claims.

Approved the Treasurer’s Report for October 2013.

Approved the Committee on Special Education Recommenda-tions.

Approved the Tax Collector’s Report

Approved returning the unpaid taxes to the counties by November 15, 2013, the Town of Webb portion being $1,601,661.60, with a Forestport amount of $46,934.78, for a total of $1,648,596.38.

Approved the appointment of Substitute Teacher Aide: Nicole Levensailor

Approved the appointment of Girls’ Modified Basketball Coach – Colin Clark.

Principal’s Report: 

• Our 9–12 class President and Vice Presidents attended the Herkimer County Youth Summit for the first time to address issues that students in our county face.

One of the issues that was discussed was bullying/drama in the school.

Students are planning an assembly, under the direction of Brendan McGrath, to share with students for Spirit Week.

• The Band Concert is taking place on Thursday, 11/21 at 7pm for Junior, Senior High and Stage Band students.

The Drama Department under the direction of Ms. Gaudin will also provide a bake sale with proceeds going towards the spring 2014 performance of “Annie Get Your Gun.”

• Winter sports have begun. Our JV Boys’ Basketball team has their first scrimmage on Friday in the gymnasium.

• Our first marking period report cards were mailed on Monday, 11/18/13 to all parents and guardians as well as being shared through Parent Portal on the internet.

• The following are the results of the Webb Way Challenge to have No students on the 5 Week Failure list!

The 1st Place class with the lowest percentage of students on the list was 9th grade, receiving five (5) points toward their class total for Spirit Week! 2nd Place – 7th grade: 12.4% (4 points); 3rd Place – 11th grade: 13.6% (3 points); 4th Place – 12th grade: 21% (2 points); 5th Place – 6th grade: 27% (2 points); 6th Place – 10th grade: 28% (1 point), 8th grade: 32% (1 point).

• The Mandatory After School Study Hall program has helped 38 students accomplish the goal of passing all of their classes at the 10 week mark. Overall, there were 92 slips turned in to move a student from failing to passing a class.

• The Learning Arts is coming to the Town of Webb for a second straight year to spend two days before Thanksgiving with our students in assemblies and workshops.

This group of Broadway musicians has been brought to us through a generous grant from an Adirondack business owner. Val Gaudin has been working diligently to coordinate these two days.

• The Webb Way will be distributing prizes this week to students in grades K-12 for not receiving a discipline referral during the 1st quarter.

• Congratulations to our K-12 Ice Cube and Chain Link recipients for Quarter 1 – 2013 as noted on our school website.

• Our Transportation class taught by Steve Bradish provided the models you see on display in the library tonight for us.

• Thank you to Kirsten Down for organizing a field trip to the Old Forge library to meet with the author, Bruce Hiscock for our K-6 grades. Thank you to Robert Fountain for seizing the opportunity to take the Studio Art class to meet the author to demonstrate the use of illustrations to enhance your story.

• Thank you to Karen Mitchell on the first grades’ field trip to the Old Forge Fire Department.

• Thank you to Robert Fountain for planning the field trip to View for Studio Art/ Drawing & Painting students to evaluate and critique the Quilt Show Exhibition.

• At this point during the year, there have been 19 teacher observations completed.
