A message from Councilman Karn Parker: Snead drives discussion, inspires participation—even as non-office holder

We find ourselves at the end of a very long and difficult supervisor’s campaign in the Town of Forestport. Candidate Parker Snead has been driving the process by keeping all of us informed as to budget possibilities and invigorating constituents to voice their concerns.

In his many ads, he has drawn attention to the highway budget and called for a 10 percent reduction in the highway budget and a one-third reduction in the highway tax levy.

And now that a budget has been proposed for 2014, that is exactly what is being called for.

Knowledge is power, and the public attention that Parker brought to these issues helped the board focus on getting it accomplished and reducing the taxpayers’ load.

Parker has also helped to keep the board focused on the spiraling employee benefit cost.

In the proposed budget, the employees would share 5 percent more of the cost borne by the town.

The zero town tax is proposed to continue.

If Parker is elected, he would not be able to submit a budget until this time next year, so I applaud him for having an impact on this year’s budget.

And in saying this, I take nothing away from the efforts of the board members to get this accomplished.

This is definitely a watershed election for our town, and I believe it will set into motion the manner of governing for many years to come.

We are in a new age and we need a new style of management, and I believe Parker is the best all-around candidate for Forestport Town Supervisor.

I will be voting for him on November 5th.

Thank you,

Councilman Bill Karn

Town of Forestport
