Service set for Robert H. Lowenberg, 74

Robert H. LowenbergRobert H. Lowenberg, 74, of Old Forge passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, August 7, 2013, surrounded by the love of his family.

He was born on February 28, 1939 in Utica a son of the late Harold and Ada (Roberts) Lowenberg. He was a 1957 graduate of Utica Free Academy.

Robert served his country with honor in the Army National Guard 105th Military Police Co. in Utica from 1961 to 1967.

In 1962 in Utica at Central United Methodist Church he was united in marriage to Lois Cortese a blessed union of over 50 years filled with much love and devotion.

Robert was employed with Niagara Mohawk in Old Forge retiring in 1999 as a Linemen Forman after 40 years of dedicated service.

Robert was a loving husband, father and grandfather who cherished the time that he spent with his family, especially his adored grandchildren. He loved his community and was always ready to help in any way possible.

He was an avid bowler and loved golfing and was a member of the Thendara Golf Course where he served on its board of directors.

Very active in his community, his many memberships included a 50 year member of the Oriental Faxton lodge #224 F & AM, the Yahnundasis Bodies AASR and the Ziyara Shriners, the Old Forge American Legion, a lifetime member of the Old Forge Fire Dept., the Community Transportation Service where he served on its Board of Directors, Past President of the Old Forge Historical Society, Thendara Golf Course, he served on the Town of Webb Town Board as a Councilman and was a Voting Inspector for the Town of Webb.

He is survived by his loving wife Lois of Old Forge, his daughter Robyn Craig and her husband Jeffrey of Marcy, a son Robert Lowenberg of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, his cherished grandchildren, Haley and Robert Craig. He also leaves a sister-in-law Cecilia Cortese of Boyton Beach, FL, also many cousins and many very dear and close friends.

The family wishes to gratefully acknowledge Hospice and Hospice Care Nurse Danielle Beckingham for their wonderful care complemented by true compassion that was given to Robert and his family during this most difficult time.

A Memorial service will be held on Friday August 16, 2013 at 11 a.m. at the Niccolls Memorial Presbyterian Church, 228 Crosby Blvd. in Old Forge with the Rev. Lawrence Bartel officiating.

There will be a Masonic Service prior to the Memorial service on Friday at 10:30 a.m. at the church. There are no public calling hours. Interment with Military Honors will be in Riverview Cemetery in Old Forge.

Arrangements are with the Dimbleby, Friedel, Williams & Edmunds Funeral Home, 128 Fern Ave., Old Forge.
