Inlet Historical Society seeks recipe favorites for new book

Charlie Herr, president of the Inlet Historical Society, sent a notice this week reminding folks that the deadline for submitting recipes for inclusion in the organization’s upcoming cookbook is Friday, June 24th.

Kay Carmichael and Carolyn O’Hara are collecting recipes from home cooks in Inlet and the surrounding area, as well as local restaurants and inns.

While the ladies have already received 75 recipes, they need a total of 250 to proceed with the project, so they can have it ready for purchase by Labor Day.

Well, no sooner did we receive Charlie’s plea, than we received a handwritten note from longtime subscriber Ethel Betz of Garden City, whose family has had a camp between Sixth and Seventh Lakes for generations.

Ethel writes:

Dear Mr. Lawson,

Here is my story!

In your May 19th Weekly Adirondack, on page 22, I saw a picture of Sue Kiesel arranging flowers in a Coleman’s mustard can. This caught my eye as I have a very good mustard recipe that calls for Coleman’s.

So I thought I would send the recipe to you folks. When I looked up your address on page 3, there underneath was the story of the Inlet Historical Society looking for recipes!

As I do not do the “internet,” I am asking you to send along the recipe to them.

Many thanks, and try it yourself—it’s really good!

Love Your Paper!

Here you go, Kay and Carolyn! The above inset contains Ethel’s mustard recipe.

I’m also including the recipe for Irene Johnston’s third place winning entry at this year’s Fire & Spice Festival hosted by Jim and Chris Holt of Seventh Lake House fame.

The event was held at The Grill Room restaurant at the Thendara Golf Club.

Irene Johnston, of Rush, NY has been a regular contestant at the hot and spicy event, and has placed three times.

Her Little Chocolate Balls, infused with jalapenos and habanera powder, delivered quite a kick for festival-goers.

Men and women alike couldn’t seem to keep their hands off them!

If you have a favorite recipe you would like to share with the Inlet Historical, email it to Kay Carmichael at: kcdc90@frontiernet.net or Carolyn O’Hara at:

Blank recipe cards can also be picked up at the Inlet Post Office or Inlet Town Hall and can be dropped off at the Inlet Town Hall.

They can also be sent to: Inlet Town Hall, c/o Inlet Historical Society Cookbook, P.O. Box 266, Inlet, NY 13360.
