Personnel representing The Old Forge Fire Department and the Old Forge Ambulance Corps surprised Bob Card, co-owner of the Strand Theatre, on Wednesday, June 12 with two donations of $1,000 each to help fund the upgrades necessary to convert the theater to a digital process.

Jamie Loson, president of the Old Forge Fire Department, and Terry Lehnen, captain of the Old Forge Ambulance Corps, who made the presentations to Card, said there were many reasons why their organizations wanted to support the conversion project.

“I don’t want to see this place go. It’s a great part of our community and we’re lucky to have it,” Lehnen said.

Loson said the fire department wanted to help out Card and co-owner Helen Zyma as a means of giving back for all they have done for them—and so many others—over the years.

“Every year we do Fire School here, and Bob never asks us for anything. He shuts down the theater so we can do that, and he lets us all use his parking lot. He does so much for everyone here—from helping us, to giving the seniors movie tickets for graduation—and we wanted to give something back,” Loson said.
