A large FedEx truck delivered the new yurt to McCauley Mountain Ski Area on Tuesday, December 6, with Will Hollister, Tim Barkauskas and Steve Uzdavinis on-site to accept it.
A team of volunteers from the Polar Bear Ski Club rallied the next day to tackle the installation task.
The new Yurt is covered with a Duro-Last leak-, fire-, and tear-proof insulated vinyl membrane that measures about 30 feet in diameter.
It has an eight-foot high wood lattice, and a roofing frame that consists of 2×6-inch boards that rise to about 13 feet at the yurt’s center.
The arrival of the yurt follows a lengthy volunteer fundraising effort by the Polar Bear Ski Club in anticipation of the 200-racer Kandahar ski race scheduled to take place over the weekend of March 3 and 4, 2012.
