Memorial Mass planned for Therese M. Capone, 72

Therese M. Capone, 72, of Lakeside Terrace Apartments, Old Forge, a native and former resident of Watertown, and the former Sister Peter Marie, of the Sisters of St. Joseph’s Order of Watertown, NY, passed away on Tuesday, March 1, 2016, at Sunset Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Boonville, after a short illness.

She was born on January 25, 1944, a daughter of Peter and Lena Geno Capone. 

Therese graduated from Watertown High School, before attending Niagara University, where she earned a Bachelor degree; later she attended the College Of St. Rose, of Albany, where she earned her Master’s Degree in Library Science.

At the age of seventeen, Therese entered the order of Sisters of St. Joseph of Watertown, taking the name of Sister Peter Marie.

After her education she taught first grade for several years in northern New York elementary schools and later was employed as Librarian at Mater Dei College of Ogdensburg.

For a time Sister Peter Marie also resided at Sisters of St. Joseph, in Latham, NY.

Later Therese returned to civilian life, moving to Old Forge, in 2000.

For many years she served as a volunteer at the Town of Webb Historical Museum, located in the former Robert Goodsell Home, in Old Forge.

She greatly enjoyed doing research on the history of the Town of Webb, contributing to the historical value of the museum.

For many years, she was employed as a Librarian for Northern New York Library System and after residing at Lakeside Terrace Apartments, Therese enjoyed establishing a residential library at the facility.

Therese was a member of St. Bartholomew’s Catholic Church, Old Forge, where she served as a lector for many years.

Therese greatly enjoyed the hobby of knitting; she will be fondly remembered for the lap blankets which she knit and later distributed to nursing home residents.

While teaching first grade, she also knit each of her students a pair of mittens.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Wednesday, March 9 at The Sisters of St. Joseph Motherhouse, 1425 Outer Washington St. Watertown, with interment to follow in Glenwood Cemetery, Watertown.

Later a Memorial Mass will be scheduled at St. Bartholo-mew’s Church on Crosby Blvd. in  Old Forge, at a date to be announced in the church bulletin. There are no calling hours.
