Richard Rivette, 86, passes away

Richard Rivette died on October 6, 2015 at the VA Hospital in LaJolla, CA. Three weeks earlier, Dick celebrated his 86th birthday at a party in his honor at the poolside clubhouse of his “one year new” residence in Santee, CA hosted by his companion and caregiver, Stephanie West.

Born in Old Forge, NY, he attended school locally and graduated from Canton Tech.

In 1950 he married his summer sweetheart, Barbara Berkstresser of Pennsylvania. They lived and worked together through several business ventures including their final one, Rivettes’ Boat Livery, which they owned and operated from 1969 to 1989.

They then retired to their new home in Port Orange, FL where they had old friends and made new through The Elks Club and Dick’s moonlighting as a Daytona Speedway Security Guard and a city traffic cop.

He was predeceased by his wife Barbara in 1999. He later married Jeannine Hare of Port Orange and they had several happy years together.

He was also predeceased by Jeannine, his brother, Peter and sister, Virginia.

He is survived by his sister, Yvonne Kinney, and many nieces and nephews.

Dicks’ wishes will be honored by the family when his cremains are placed, by the family, in Big Moose Lake, where he placed Barbara’s ashes 15 years ago.
