The One Square Mile of Hope Committee is busily preparing for a full day of activities on Fourth Lake and at Arrowhead Park in Inlet on Saturday, September 13th.
A record crowd is expected to join in the effort to set a new Guinness record for the largest raft of canoes, kayaks and guideboats, while raising over $100,000 for breast cancer research.
Our partnership with the Kiwanis Club of the Central Adirondacks has been instrumental in helping us make this year’s event happen.
Raffle tickets for three donated boats are being sold at various events throughout the region.
The Food committee has planned a delicious and healthy lunch that will be available immediately after the record setting raft-up.
The Logistics group is busy filling a wish list of buoys, ropes, picnic tables, pontoon boats, and a million other necessities.
Sponsors are donating money, food, and items for the silent and Chinese auctions.
Musical groups have been lined up for the afternoon entertainment.
The Communications committee has made plans to cover all areas of the venue with radio communications.
The photographers needed to do the photo and video-recording required by Guinness have been signed on.
These things and more are being accomplished as the registrations keep rolling in.
In mid-July 2011, fewer than 300 boats had been registered, and the final count on the day of the event was over 1,900 boats from 17 states and the province of Ontario.
As of July 31, 2014, 1,691 boats (1,846 paddlers) from 29 states and the provinces of Ontario and Quebec have registered to join us.
Pre-event registration is encouraged. You may register online or print out a mail-in form at onesquaremileofhope.org, or you may pick up a registration form at the Inlet Information Office or many area businesses.
If you have questions, or would like to help, please call the Inlet Information Office at (315) 357-5501 or e-mail info@onesquaremileofhope.org.
If you have already registered, we are glad you are joining us! Be on the lookout for upcoming e-mails with important information you will need to know the day of the event to make sure everyone stays safe and is counted correctly.
To add to the fun, on Sunday, September 7, Raquette Lake Navigation has scheduled a special Cruise for Hope from 4 to 6 p.m. Tickets for the all-inclusive cruise are $50 each, with 100% of the ticket receipts going to One Square Mile of Hope.

Everyone involved is thrilled with the response from so many of you, and we are on track to put Inlet and the Central Adirondacks back in the record books in September.
