Tony Tormey has announced that he will pursue the position of Town of Webb Justice in the November 4 election.
A life-long Old Forge resident, Tormey retired from the New York State Department of Transpor-tation in September 2011. An active member of the Old Forge Fire and Ambulance crews for 48 years, he has been elected to seven five-year terms on the Town of Webb Fire District #1 Board of Commissioners. He currently serves as chairman, a position he has held for the past 20-plus years.
He and his wife, Joan, have one son, Karl, who lives in Old Forge with his wife, Nia and son, Cole.
Should Tormey win the election, he will have to give up his position on the Board of Commissioners and someone will be appointed to finish the remainder of his term that expires on December 31, 2015.
“It was a tough decision to run for Town Justice, but I am civic-minded and want to do something different. I’m very interested in the position and know I could do a good job. It’s a sacrifice to possibly give up the commissioner’s position, but I would continue to be active with both the fire and ambulance squads as much as time would allow,” Tormey said.
Tormey, a Republican, will be pursuing the four-year Town Justice position currently held by James Miller.
The first day for signing and designating petitions for state and local primaries is Thursday, May 29th. Designating petitions must be filed between July 7 and 10th.
Primary elections will be held on Tuesday, September 9th.
