Webb Boys and Girls Alpine Teams named Sec. III Champs; 11 skiers headed to states

The Town of Webb School’s boys and girls alpine ski teams have been named Section III Alpine Champions following two days of competition at McCauley Mountain.

The event included slalom races on Monday, February 10 and giant slalom races on Tuesday, February 11th.

Due to their outstanding performances at the championship races, 11 Webb skiers have been named to the NY State Alpine Team and will compete at the State Championships at Bristol Mountain on Monday and Tuesday, February 24 and 25th.

The names and ranks of the boys earning placement on the 11-person team are: Corey Down, 1st; Cy Barkauskas, 2nd; Carter Lawrence, 4th; Hunter Lawrence, 6th; Connor Glasser, 8th; Griffin Kleps, 9th; and John Gaffney, second alternate.

Named to the girls team are: Chloe Barkauskas, 5th; Mara Gaffney, 7th; Ally Cooper, 8th; and Lauren Beckingham, second alternate.

Polar Bears say thanks

Thank you to everyone who supported the Polar Bear Ski Club Spaghetti Dinner at McCauley Mountain on Sunday, January 19th.

The Polar Bears would like to offer a special thank you to Nick and Felicity for the use of The Last Run Café for cooking and serving the meals. Food donations were provided by Dave Fishman, Ozzie’s Coffee Bar, Sysco Foods, Jim Holt and many parents and supporters of the club.

Everyone had a great time skiing under the lights, listening to music from  great local talents, enjoying the company of friends and family, and eating a delicious meal.

Polar Bear Team skis to first place finishes at Adirondack Council Race

The Youth Polar Bear Alpine Team competed in an Adirondack Council Race at McCauley Mountain on Saturday, February 8, where the boys and girls took first place finishes in their individual age groups.

Young Nordic Polar Bears place well at Osceola meet

Eight Polar Bear nordic skiers competed at races at Osceola Ski Center in Osceola on Sunday, February 9th. Forty youth racers representing Rochester, Cooperstown, Syracuse and Camden also took part in the races with the largest number of participants in the U12 boys age group.  Continue reading →

U14 Polar Bears compete at Windham Mtn.

The U14 Polar Bear Alpine Ski Team traveled to Windham Mountain on Monday, February 3 to compete in a Super G race.

The results of the race are as follows:

Men

5th – Blake Greene

Three Polar Bears earn spots on NYS Eastern Alpine Team

The U16 Alpine Polar Bear athletes finished their regular ski season on January 25th with a slalom race competition at Snow Ridge. For the women, Mara Gaffney placed 8th, Alex DiOrio placed 20th, and Lauren Beckingham, who did not finish her first run, but had a strong finish on the second.

The men placed in the top five. Carter Lawrence was third and Cy Barkauskas fourth.  Matt Parent did not compete due to other obligations.

The next day they competed at McCauley where they had another great showing. Lauren Beckingham placed 23rd and Alex DiOrio 25th. Unfortunately, Mara Gaffney did not finish.   Continue reading →

The Polar Bear Youth Alpine Ski Team competed in an Adirondack Council Race at Woods Valley on Sunday, January 19 with boys and girls placing in the top of their age groups. The results were:
