Carol and Herb Schmid, owners of the once seasonally-run Kalil’s Grocery in Inlet, will now be serving their customers year round.
The mom and pop market will continue to offer the goods and products seasonal customers have grown accustomed to: fresh meats and produce—including a selection of organics—and a full deli featuring premium meats and cheeses, storemade rolls and salads and their signature Herbie’s Hoagies.
A new Value Card has been introduced whereby customers can earn rewards and savings for their loyalty, and seniors can take advantage of 10 percent savings on their total purchases on Wednesdays. They are also working on a website and facebook page.
They will also continue as a pick-up point for wholeshare.com, an on-line co-op that provides high-quality natural organic products from New York state farms. Products include produce, dairy, eggs, meats and pantry items.
The Schmids purchased the grocery store in April 1994 from the Kalil family who had operated it since the early 1950’s.
This time of year the market employs five people, but once summer hits Carol said the staff balloons to 22 to accommodate the hordes of seasonal customers.
Kalil’s Grocery is located at 169 State Rte. 28 and is currently open seven days from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.
